More Wedding Planning…

Friday, July 20th, 2007

The past few weeks we’ve been trying to finish up the big stuff and get our deposits down. Justin helped out quite a bit by taking care of the hotel rooms. We blocked off several at a few different places off I-80 and L Street, just a few miles away from the reception location. So be sure to check the Out of Town Guests link if you will need a hotel room. Justin also made arrangements for Ollie the Trolley. After the ceremony Ollie will take the wedding party over to the reception, after a few pit stops of course.

We also spent some Saturdays checking out rental supplies, flowers and cake vendors! We decided to go with Mulhall’s for our flowers and I had the best time meeting with Frank to discuss all the options. I’m a bit particular on how I want the centerpieces and bouquets to look like and Frank had no problem meeting my expectations. Then came the cake tasting! Justin isn’t huge on sweets, but I love cake! So it was important to me to make sure we tried several vendors – even though I’ve tasted them all many times at bridal fairs. It was harder than I thought picking the right baker. But I thought a good decision maker would be how much of the sample I ate - if I finished off the whole thing then that was a good sign. We still have a few more places to check out before we make our final decision though.

Next, one of the rental vendors was kind enough to mention that a wedding would be going on at Mt. Vernon gardens on Saturday the 14th. So my sister and I made a trip out there to see how they set up the chairs, how many they could fit and just get a better visual of how it will look. And it got me really excited about the location! We actually aren’t able to reserve the park until the first of November, when the Omaha Parks & Rec people open their books for 2008, so it makes me a little nervous to be making plans for a place that we technically don’t have yet. But hopefully we won’t have any problems getting the park for our date. Below is a picture I took while they were setting up.

I think we’ve taken care of most things that we need to for now, so once we find the perfect cake we can relax for a few months. And of course this fall we have a few more weddings to attend. So maybe I can get some more ideas!
